Butterfly Park Chandigarh

At a distance of 4.5 km from Chandigarh Bus Station, Butterfly Park is a famous park situated in front of the main entrance of Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology in sector 26 of Chandigarh. It is one of the best places to visit in Chandigarh.

Butterfly Park is spread over an area of 7 acres, with a beautiful landscape. Special care has been taken to create a good habitat for butterflies. The park is well maintained and is home to around 100 species of butterflies, which add color to the place. A few prominent among these are Angled Castor, Ape flyBlue MormonCommon Grass YellowCommon Blue Bottle, Chocolate pansy, Commander, etc. There are silence zones that are created for beautiful tiny creatures such that they do not get disturbed when they walk on trails of nature.

To make ideal habitat for the butterflies special care is taken, and numerous host and nectar plants can be easily seen. These plants attract butterflies and greatly help in the breeding of specific species. Host plants like Mango, Salix, Citrus, Amla, Ashoka, camphor, etc. are planted for the breeding of Butterflies and Nectar plants such as Dahlia, Pansy, Marigold, Sweet peas, Antrinium, Cosmos, Zinnia, etc. are planted seasonally. Butterflies also derive nourishment from pollen, tree sap, rotten fruits, dun, and dissolved minerals in wet sand or dirt. Rotten fruits are placed at different locations in the Park to attract the butterflies. Over a hundred species of different butterflies have been clicked on different occasions.

The Department in collaboration with various Eco Clubs organizes visits to school students to sensitize them about this beautiful creation.

The main objective to create this park was to understand the importance of butterflies in maintaining a balance in biodiversity. The park signifies the importance of conserving butterflies and making children aware of the fact. The main theme of this park is “Save butterflies, and save the Ecosystem”.

The ideal time to find butterflies in this park is summer and the Rainy season. From March to October butterflies can be seen the most. During the extreme winter season, from December to January butterflies is rare to be seen. But it is not impossible to find butterflies during these months. All you need to have is a bit of patience to get to see them.
